I’d like to do my second story as a localization about recent hate speech and defamation. A pressing issue in the past few years, hate speech had increased by 17 percent from 2016 to 2017, and even more the last year in 2018, according to the New York Times. The same piece reported that nearly three out of five crime reports were racially or ethnically motivated. This seems especially salient given hate emails sent to campus recently.

I’d like to interview the head of the Sociology Department, who was sent the emails, sociology majors, and other non-affected Wake students to see the difference in apprehension maybe.
